What Is A Sex Addict?
How Can You Tell If You Or A Loved One Is Addicted?

This is a very complex disease.  What is addictive to one may only be a passing fancy to
another.  If, however, you fit into one of these categories, there is grave cause for concern:

  • You spend more than 3 hours a day looking at Internet porn sites.
  • You are constantly thinking about sex.
  • You feel sex is the most important thing in your life.
  • You spend considerable money per month on pornographic movies, books or
    magazines.
  • You frequent strip clubs and keep it secret from your spouse.
  • You use prostitutes.
  • You have a secret life.
  • You have or have had multiple affairs.
  • Sexual activity has caused you to do things you think are wrong.
  • You have an interest in child pornography.
  • Sexual activity has caused or might cause legal problems.
  • You surf porn sites at work.
  • You feel you are "over sexed".
  • Your sexual activities have caused embarrassment at work or job loss.

There are many other activities that might indicate a problem as well.  If you don't fit into one
of these compulsive behaviors, it does not mean you are not an addict.  The fact that you
are visiting this site, may indicate there is reason to be concerned.  Only a professional can
tell you for sure if you are an addict and provide treatment.

Some Common Questions . . .

  1. All addicts are men, right?  Wrong.  Most are but about 25% of addicts are women.
  2. Can addiction be cured?  No.  Addiction is a lifelong illness but it can be treated
and with proper treatment, one can find "recovery" and live a normal life.
  3. Can you have more than one addiction at a time?  Yes.  A fair number of sex
addicts are multiply addicted.  This might include drugs, booze, religion, work,
    shopping or food.
  4. Sex addiction goes away when someone gets married.  Wrong.  The frequency of
sexual behavior may rise and fall but it does not "go away on its own".
  5. "Sex Addict" is really  just a nice word for "pervert".  Wrong.  Sex addiction is an
illness.  It attacks all kinds of people - ministers, politicians, doctors and factory
workers.  It is an illness and does not mean you are a "bad" person.
